Spiders in Sydney: what to know

Most are harmless

Most spider bites cause only minor irritation. Bites from funnel-web and redback spiders are the ones that can harm people.

Redbacks like to live near us

Redbacks build webs in dry, sheltered spots close to people, such as sheds, rock piles, junk piles and outdoor toilets.

Funnel-web bites are an emergency

For a funnel-web bite, call 000 and apply a pressure immobilisation bandage. For a redback bite, wash it, use a cold pack and see a doctor if symptoms are bad. Do not bandage a redback bite.

Which spiders do you treat?

Common Sydney house and garden spiders, including huntsmen, redbacks, daddy long-legs and other web-building spiders. If you are not sure what you have, send us a photo on WhatsApp.

How do you protect children and pets during treatment?

At K2G Pest Control, we use Australian government-approved pest control products that are safe for children and pets when applied correctly and according to label instructions. We carefully select the right products for each treatment and take extra precautions in areas where children and pets spend time. Our licensed technician will also explain any necessary safety precautions, including when it is safe to return to treated areas.

What should I do if someone is bitten?

For a suspected funnel-web bite, call 000 straight away and apply a pressure immobilisation bandage. For a redback bite, wash the area, apply a cold pack and see a doctor if symptoms are bad.
