More than a nuisance

House flies carry disease-causing organisms, which they pick up from garbage and sewage.

They breed fast

A female lays many hundreds of eggs, and the maggots develop in rotting organic material such as food scraps. Adults usually live only 15 to 25 days.

Drain flies are different

Drain flies (moth flies) are tiny, 2 to 4 mm long, dark grey and covered in fine hairs. They gather where there is moisture, such as bathrooms and open drains.

Prevention starts with waste

Keep food and waste in sealed containers, remove rubbish regularly and fit mesh screens to windows and doors.

What are the small fuzzy flies in my bathroom?
