Bed bugs in Sydney: what to know

Small, but you can see them

Adult bed bugs are flat, light brown and about the size of an apple seed. They turn redder and swell after feeding.

They hide by day

Bed bugs feed at night and spend the day in cracks and seams, so many people don't spot them until the infestation has grown.

It isn't about cleanliness

What are the signs of bed bugs?

Look for red, itchy welts on your skin, small blood spots on your sheets or mattress, and light brown or reddish bugs around the mattress seams or bed base.

How long does bed bug treatment take?

It depends on how bad the infestation is. We assess it first, then we can tell you the best treatment and how long it should take.

How do bed bugs get into a home?

They hitch a ride on second-hand furniture, clothing and bags. In units and apartment blocks they can also move between neighbouring homes through the walls.

Do I have to throw out my furniture?
